"Open Wide!"

We packed a lot in today, but we're already done!  She just loves this homeschooling stuff!  Today, we started our study of the letter 'B,' we finished our color series with the colors gray, black, and white, and we studied dentists and veterinarians.  Before the rundown, here are some photos:
Here, we're ready to try out marble painting to paint the black stripes on a zebra!

Rolling the marble ...
Our zebra!

We had a snack while reading our books about dentists:
Marshmallow teeth!
One of our crafts today was to paint some dirty teeth white, using a toothbrush!  She really enjoyed this activity!

Later, we practiced our veterinary skills on our police dog:

What we did today:
Letter B:
1.  We looked at big letter 'B' and little letter 'b' and discussed the same, along with words that start with 'B.'
2.  We read The Berenstain Bears' B Book by Stan & Jan Berenstain.
Colors (Gray, Black, White):
1.  We sorted through our gray, black, and white color bags and pointed to things around the house that are those colors.
2.  We sang "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep."
3.  We read White: Seeing White All Around Us by Michael Dahl.
4.  We read Black: Seeing Black All Around Us by Michael Dahl.
5.  We listened to the "Old Gray Mare" song on her Wee Sing Folk CD.
6.  We did two worksheets that asked us to 'circle the objects that are black/white.'
7.  We painted the black stripes on a zebra using a marble, black paint, and a shoebox lid.
8.  We exercised (danced) to "White Wedding" by Billy Idol, "Grey Street" by The Dave Matthews Band, and "Paint it Black" by The Rolling Stones.
Community Helpers (Dentists/Veterinarians):
1.  We read Dentists by Dee Ready.
2.  We read The Tooth Book by Dr. Seuss.
3.  We watched Open Wide, a DVD about teeth that we borrowed from the library.
4.  We colored a picture of a dentist and mounted it to a stick to use as another puppet in our end-of-the-week community helpers puppet show.
5.  We sang Sesame Street's "The People in Your Neighborhood" song again, with the dentist lyrics added.
6.  We had our 'toothy smile snack' (apple slices, spread with peanut butter, with mini marshmallows for teeth).
7.  We 'cleaned' a set of dirty teeth on paper using white paint and a toothbrush.
8.  We read Shel Silverstein's poem, "The Crocodile's Toothache," in his Where the Sidewalk Ends.
9.  We read The Vet by Amy Levin.
10.  We read I Want to Be a Veterinarian (a Sesame Street book) by Michaela Muntean.
11.  We read We Need Veterinarians by Lola M. Schaefer.
12.  We read Veterinarians by Dee Ready.
13.  We read Sally Goes to the Vet by Stephen Huneck.
14.  We used our doctor bag and band-aids to help our 'sick' police dog feel better.

Tomorrow's our mid-week break, so we'll be running errands and hitting the North Columbus Library's story and craft hour, but we'll write again on Thursday!  Thanks for reading!  :)
