Lesson 4 in Apologia's Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day is all about flight. I don't have much to share about this lesson, but we did add in a couple of good videos to it, hence the reason for this post.
We learned all about the difference in birds' bones versus the bones of other creatures. We did an image search of birds' bones and found some good ones to better understand the difference.
In this study, we also leaned about flight muscles, takeoff, steering, flapping, gliding, and soaring. We found this great video on YouTube of an eagle soaring from his own point of view! (There are several neat videos like this on YouTube.)
In our study of migration,we watched the "Migration Vacation" episode of our The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That! Wings and Things DVD.
Here is the episode on this video from YouTube. (We just love this series!)
We also read How Do Birds Find Their Way? by Roma Gans. This is a GREAT book, full of fun facts about migration!
Here, Mags is working on the vocabulary activity from the notebooking journal ...
... matching flight terms to their definitions.
She loved the notebook's migration wheel!
We love Apologia!
