Season in the Sun

So, we wrapped up our study of seasons today with a little lesson on Summer.  For the same, we read Summer by Gail Saunders-Smith ...
... and How Do You Know It's Summer? by Allan Fowler.
We also enjoyed a little Shel Silverstein, particularly, his poem "Here Comes" out of his A Light in the Attic, page 32:
Here Comes
Here comes summer,
Here comes summer,
Chirping robin, budding rose.
Here comes summer,
Here comes summer,
Gentle showers, summer clothes.
Here comes summer,
Here comes summer --
Whoosh -- shiver -- there it goes.
After our reading, we started our Summer Pocket.
We made a summer scene with torn paper for our pocket ...
... and made up a sentence about the season.
Then we added them to the other three seasonal pockets and our cover, and bound them.  Our Seasons Book is now complete!  (And she is so proud!)
We then reviewed the four seasons with a few activities in our Evan-Moor workbook ...
... and completed a journal entry about her favorite season, Winter.
That ends Week 1 of First Grade!  We start Week 2 on Tuesday, when we delve into weather and a new FIAR book!  Check back with us!
