'Luv Bugs' and T. Rex Tattoos

Happy Thursday!  We did some really fun activities today and afterwards, Maggie announced that she was a T. Rex that liked to eat plants.  I sighed at her with relief that I wasn't in danger until she informed that I was a big plant and proceeded to 'chomp' into my thigh.  Silly girl.  Some photos from today:

 We found a 'nest' of 'dinosaur eggs' in our mulch outside!  (Thank you, Susie, for the eggs!)

 They had dinosaur sponge capsules in them!  (Maggie loves these, and needed no instruction on how to help them 'hatch!')

Letter 'R':
1. We made the 'R' page of our letter book.
Healthy Habits (Nutrition):
1. We completed several healthy food worksheets (with reusable stickers) that helped us review our food groups, colors, shapes, and numbers.
2. We checked on the progress of our potatoes from our 'Clean Hands' science project that we did last week.
Dinosaurs:
1. We read Dino Boulder Ball by Jonathan Emmett.
2. We read Granddad's Dinosaur by Brough Girling.
3. We read If Dogs Were Dinosaurs by David M. Schwartz.
4. We read Harry and the Dinosaurs at the Museum by Ian Whybrow.
5. We read Sammy and the Dinosaurs by Ian Whybrow.
6. We read Hungry Dinosaur by Ziefert.
7. We read The Dinosaurs Meet Dr. Clock by Martha Weston.
8. We read When Dinosaurs Came With Everything by Elise Broach.
9. We read Shel Silverstein's 'Prehistoric' poem in his A Light in the Attic, pg. 79.
10. We watched our Sesame Street: Dinosaurs! DVD.
11. We painted a couple of her Magic Paint Posters Mighty! Dinosaurs pages and picked out a temporary dinosaur tattoo from the same to sport.
12. We 'found' some dinosaur eggs in the backyard and watched them 'hatch' into dinosaur sponges!
13. We colored a picture of a dinosaur, then used a penny to cut small circles at the legs for her fingers to fit through and act as legs.
Valentine's Day:
1. We read Minnie and Moo: Will You Be My Valentine? by Denys Cazet.
2. We read Lovable Lyle by Benard Waber.
3. We read Polly's Pink Pajamas by Vivian French.
4. We made a Valentine for the birds using a cookie cutter to cut a heart out of a stale piece of bread. We then spread it with peanut butter and birdseed before poking a pipe cleaner through the heart for hanging on a tree in our backyard.
5. We made a Valentine 'Luv Bug.'

Food Rainbow

I can't believe it's already mid-week.  Our Disney trip will be here before we know it!  Today, we attended North Columbus Library's Preschool Adventures, as well as ran a few errands and hit the grocery store for a mini field trip to complete our food rainbow.  Here are some photos:

Our 'Food Rainbow,' waiting for a trip to the grocery store ... (I also must mention that we discussed that rainbow starts with 'R,' our letter for the week, which is why it's underlined in our picture.)

 All done!  (We wrote the names of the different fruits and vegetables in the bands of their respective colors.)

We got a surprise today ... a Color Wonder kit in honor of our Dinosaurs curriculum!

Today, we:
Social:
1. We attended Preschool Adventures at North Columbus Library, where we learned about lions.  (We read Face to Face Safari by Sally Hewitt, If I Were A Lion by Sarah Weeks, and One Yellow Lion by Matthew Van Fleet, as well as made a lion mask.)
2. We made birthday cards for Uncle Steven.
Letter 'R':
1. We found the 'R's in our letter magnets and spelled out words that start with 'R.'
Healthy Habits (Nutrition):
1. We went to the grocery store and found fruits and/or vegetables to match every color of the rainbow, and documented the same.
2. We read Shel Silverstein's poem, 'Carrot' in his book, Falling Up, page 105.
3. We watched the Elmo's World: Food, Water & Exercise! DVD that we borrowed from the library.
Dinosaurs:
1. We read Derek the Knitting Dinosaur by Mary Blackwood.
2. We read Dear Tyrannosaurus Rex by Lisa McClatchy.
3. We read The Dinosaur Alphabet Book by Jerry Pallotta.
4. We read T-Rex is Missing! by Tomie dePaola.
5. We read Danny and the Dinosaur by Syd Hoff.
6. We watched the How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food? DVD that we borrowed from the library.
7. We played with the Crayola Color Wonder: Dinosaur Train markers and coloring pad.
8. We read Dinosaur's Day by Ruth Thomson.
9. We read Dinosnores by Kelly DiPucchio.
10. We read How Do Dinosaurs Say I Love You? by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague.

Numbers:
1. We completed pages 11 and 21 of our Numbers 1-12 workbook (identifying groups of 5, and a numerical dot-to-dot).

I squiggle heart you, T. Rex!

Al and I were so busy over the last 3 or 4 days, that homeschooling got put on the back burner on Friday.  So, we packed in two days' worth (Friday and today) into one, so needless to say, Mags and I are both pooped.  Here are some photos:

 I went to do some dishes while she painted, and when I came back, I was surprised to see that she was replicating the heart on paper with her brush!  (She's so artsy like her Daddy!)  :)

Letters/Letter 'Q' and Letter 'R':
1. We practiced writing big letter 'Q' and little letter 'q,' both on paper, and in the sugar tray.
2. We completed the alphabetized dot-to-dot (A-O) worksheet in our Getting Your Preschooler Ready to Read book (pg. 33).
3. We looked at and discussed big letter 'R' and little letter 'r' and words that start with 'R': Rachel, raisins, raspberries, radish, rabbit, rice, railroad, riddle, red, rooster, rattlesnake, rhinoceros, etc.
4. We read My 'r' Sound Box by Jane Belk Moncure.
5. We read Rusty Red: The Sound of R by Cynthia Klingel and Robert B. Noyed.
Healthy Habits (Sleep and Exercise, Nutrition):
1. We read Sleep is for Everyone by Paul Showers.

6. We read the 'Bend and Stretch' action rhyme in High Five magazine, January 2011, pgs. 32-33.

12. We discussed nutrition and looked at the food pyramid to talk about things that are good for our bodies to eat (and what is not). We made our own food pyramid and placed her plastic food on it.
13. We watched some Sesame Street videos online about nutrition.
14. We watched our Sid the Science Kid: Feeling Good Inside and Out: I Want Cake DVD.
15. We listened to and danced to our Disney’s Dance Along CD.
Dinosaurs:
1. We read Oh Say Can You Say Di-no-Saur? All About Dinosaurs by Bonnie Worth.
2. We read our Dinosaur Clash! board book.
3. We read Word Bird's Dinosaur Days by Jane Belk Moncure.
4. We read Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs by Byron Barton.
5. We read Dinosaur Woods by George McClements.
6. We read Dinosaurs Galore! by Giles Andreae.

11. We completed our dinosaur fold-out scene and sticker play set.
12. We made 'Dinosaur Hand Prints' by wrapping our ring and middle fingers together with a piece of tape, then painting our hands with green paint, before pressing firmly on a piece of paper.
Opposites (Over/Under and Hard/Soft):
1. We played with her opposites puzzle cards again and pulled out the 'Over/Under' card and 'Hard/Soft' for further study.
2. We completed the 'Under Here, Under There' and 'Over the Top' worksheets in our Getting Your Preschooler Ready to Read book (pgs. 12-13).
3. We completed the two Hard/Soft worksheets that we picked up at the library.
4. We found different examples of 'Hard' and 'Soft' throughout the house.
5. For review, we completed the five Same/Different worksheets that required her to identify the same/different object in each group, and match like items.
Numbers/Counting:
1. We got out our calendar and counted down the number of days we have left until our Disney trip!
2. We completed pages 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 of our Numbers 1-12 workbook (counting objects in a picture and circling the correct number, and identifying groups).
Valentine's Day:
1. We read Countdown to Valentine's Day by Jodi Huelin.
2. We read Valentines Are For Saying I Love You by Margaret Sutherland.
3. We read Rhyme Time Valentine by Nancy Poydar.
4. We read 1-2-3 Valentine's Day: A Counting Book by Jeanne Modesitt.
5. We read Henry and the Valentine Surprise by Nancy Carlson.
6. We made a 'Squiggle Hearts Craft' using glue squeezed onto a paper heart, then painted in water color.
7. We made heart-shaped rice krispie treats.
8. We read Amelia Bedelia's First Valentine by Herman Parish.
9. We read A Valentine for Cousin Archie by Barbara Williams.
10. We read Happy Valentine's Day, Dolores by Barbara Samuels.
11. We read Jon Scieszka's Trucktown: Melvin's Valentine by Jon Scieszka.
12. We colored out of our Sesame Street: Everybodee Loves coloring book.
