Busy October!

So, I've spent the weekend detailing my lesson plan for October, and boy, were there a lot of decisions to make!  For one, there are at least thirteen monthly observances in October (not mentioning weekly and daily observances), so after weeding through those (I didn't think it necessary to celebrate Sausage Month), I finally narrowed down the list to six.  We will be covering:
1)  Squirrel Awareness Month;
2)  Raptor Month;
3)  Bat Appreciation Month;
4)  Eat Better, Eat Together Month;
5)  National Popcorn Poppin' Month; and
6) Tackling Hunger Month.
I learned with September, however, that studying a monthly observance for the entire month (apples!) gets a bit tiresome, so I've devoted certain weeks to each monthly observance, in addition to the daily and weekly observances I thought she could learn from.  (I did, however, decide to spread the study of Eat Better, Eat Together Month over two weeks instead of one, as the study of nutrition is more important to learn than the study of something like popping popcorn!)  So, here is a breakdown of each week's topics that you can expect for the month of October:

WEEK 1 (10/4 - 10/7):
Calendar/Weather Updates, Bible Study, World Animal Day (4), World Smile Day (7), Universal Children's Week, Great Books Week, National Newspaper Week, Squirrel Awareness Month, Raptor Month, Fall, Letter Ee Review, Math Concepts

WEEK 2 (10/11 - 10/14):
Calendar/Weather Updates, Bible Study, Kids' Goal Setting Week, World Rainforest Week, Bat Appreciation Month, Eat Better, Eat Together Month, Halloween, Letter Ff Review, Math Concepts

WEEK 3 (10/18 - 10/21):
Calendar/Weather Updates, Bible Study, National Chocolate Cupcake Day (18), Reptile Awareness Day (21), Kids Care Week, Eat Better, Eat Together Month, National Popcorn Poppin’ Month, Halloween, Letter Gg Review, Math Concepts

WEEK 4 (10/25 - 10/28):
Calendar/Weather Updates, Bible Study, Peace, Friendship, and Goodwill Week, International Magic Week, Tackling Hunger Month, Halloween, Letter Hh Review, Math Concepts

I hope you'll be able to take plenty of ideas from my curriculum for your month, too!
